This loft interior is located in one of the few remaining wood framed warehouse structures in San Francisco. The clients wanted a clean, modern interior to contrast with the industrial character of the raw space. To maintain privacy, but maintain an open feeling, the bedroom and bathroom were elevated approximately three feet above the public living spaces. Kitchen cabinetry cleanly fits against this raised element. Because the space only has windows on one wall, a glass shower enclosure brings light into the previously dark bathroom space. Bamboo is used as flooring material and as a finished wall surface enclosing the bedroom and bathroom volumes. This gives the design a sculptural effect which contrasts with the orthogonal geometry of the warehouse structure.
