This extensive remodel really amounted to a reconstruction and expansion of the home at this Noe Valley, San Francisco. Neglect and fire had undermined the utility of the structure. Our client wished to include new details and elements that would refer to the original turn-of the century structure and neighborhood. We added a fourth floor, a garage, and decks and balconies as part of the design solution. All original details had been stripped away on the exterior, and false ceilings and previous poor remodels made the interior uninviting. We were fortunate to have a corner lot which allowed us to introduce windows on three sides of the building. That combined with a central skylight stair infuse the space with light. The interior floor plan combines elements of contemporary living with details inspired by traditional home. This project really was a collaboration among Studio G+S Architects, a, thoughtful client, and very talented, detail-oriented builder, Cal-Bay Builders. We feel fortunate to be involved in this project which supported an improved the neighborhood. It was great getting compliments from neighbors during site visits!
