The mikvah is a bath of purification for orthodox Jewry, and this one is located on the ground floor of a three story residential building. Our intention is to create a serene, contemplative atmosphere that transports the practitioner from the day to day realities of the outside world (beyond the building walls and on the residential floors above). The pool itself is symbolically placed in the center of the space and is lit from above through a circular skylight. The palette of materials -- limestone, teak, plaster, and water -- was selected for its visual and tactile qualities.
